Brea Jean ~ 16 months

Another month has come and gone! Brea is a toddler now, which is totally crazy to think about. She is getting cuter and sassier by the day. We love her to pieces! This is what she has been up to.

Nickname(s): Goo-me, Sassy, Bree

Biggest Achievement: Walking full-time!  It didn't take Brea long to become a walker once she decided SHE was ready.  Within a week she was walking full-time. She didn't really go through the awkward 'toddle' phase. She is pretty coordinated and walked with pretty good balance right away.

Biggest Challenge: Getting into  her car seat. I did NOT have the problem with either one of the other kids but this seems to be a theme for Brea. She is extremely difficult to get into a car seat as she screams and arches her back making things extremely difficult as she is pretty strong!! I have to distract her with something to get her to sit down. *Eye roll*

Likes: Zazzy, rearranging the shoes by the boot bench, getting into the bathroom cabinet and walking around with toothbrushes leaving them all over the house, putting Hayden's dog food into her water dish, baby dolls, and playing with light sabers

Dislikes: Napping longer than an hour, sitting in her high chair, not being able to eat dinner at five o'clock on the dot

Eating: Eating is going okay. She is just at the age when she doesn't want to sit long enough to eat. She also is not interested in eating anything she doesn't want to. She likes meat, carbs, and fruit. She is not a fan of veggies. Lunch is her least favorite meal of the day and she rarely eats anything however, she does snack throughout the day. Dinner is usually better because of her lack of lunch, I think. She wants dinner to be done right at five o'clock and is very whiny when we (read Matt) is making dinner around that time. It can be frustrating because she whines and cries around the kitchen waiting for dinner but then won't eat what we give her when dinner is ready. Fortunately for me (and Brea), this is not my first rodeo. Dinnertime was extremely stressful when Carter was little because I was so stressed and frustrated when he wouldn't eat. Meal time is no longer something I care to fight because I know that this is a stage and eventually she will eat when she is hungry.

She is becoming more of a milk drinker and requests milk from Papa Dave in the morning. She also drink quite a bit of water. Of course she prefers these liquids when they are in someone else's cup ;). She could have three cups in front of her, including her own, and she will almost always pick Jake or Nora's cup to drink out of. Silly girl! She continues to nurse in the morning and most evenings before bed. Not very long ~ ten minutes at most. This seems to still work for us so I am not in a hurry to have her wean. She is starting to 'request' nursing when she is in a crabby mood by pulling on my shirt. This is something neither of the other two kids ever did so it is a new thing for me.

Sleeping: Brea's napping is not stellar. She sleeps for about an hour during the day (sometimes an hour and a half) but rarely longer. She is always the first one up from nap at my  mom's house but fortunately is usually in a happy mood upon waking up. Night time is good however, she has had several nights when she cries around 11 o'clock. Not for very long and I don't even think she is really awake when she does it. She goes to bed around 7:30 and sleeps to around 7 in the morning.

The Superficial: Brea is so cute I can't stand it!! She is a little chubby with a baby mullet. She still has her baby blues and light blonde hair. Her hair is coming slowly but surely and she has the beginning of a baby mullet. She has a big mouth so when she smiles you can see all her teeth. She wears 12 to 18 month clothes, size 3 diapers, and size 5 shoes. She looks more like baby Carter to me than baby Isla and some faces she makes are definitely Carter faces especially the naughty ones :).

Personality:  Brea is a stinker! She knows exactly what she is doing when making naughty choices and she totally shows it with her naughty face. She has perfected throwing a tantrum complete with fake crying and throwing herself on the ground. Girlfriend has got a temper! Oh my!
It is increasingly difficult to get a picture of these three

She is also my daredevil. She pretty much has no fear and loves to climb.

Brea can also be a bit of a bully. She has been known to push Nora on occasion and we continue to work on gentle hands. Being the youngest, she doesn't take anything from anybody and isn't afraid to stand up for herself. She and Jake get into their fair share of quarrels but as third children can hold their own with each other.

Teeth: Still holding strong at 8 teeth

Language: Brea still jabbers the day away and will try to mimic almost anything. The other day, Jake tried to hit Brea on the head and my mom stopped him and told him no. Right after, Brea got in his face and jabbered something to him as if she was saying, 'yeah, no hitting Jake!' She has says things that sound like 'I did it!' Other new words include:

  • bubble
  • kitty
  • mom-ee (instead of mama)
  • muah for kisses
  • baby
  • shh (to be quiet)
  • dad-ee (instead of dada)
  • papa
  • Carter
  • 'cheese' when getting her picture taken

Other Notables: Brea likes to play with baby dolls. She carries her baby doll, car seat, and high chair around the house. She still loves her Ducky and also favors her Red Panda. She still enjoys reading before bed. We read 'Going on a Bear Hunt' and will pat her leg when reading the 'We're going on a bear hunt. We're going to catch a big one. We're not scared' parts similar to what I do when reading. She also will scream 'ahh' when we get to the bear part. She also enjoys 'ABC Look at Me' book. Her favorite part is the alphabet at the end and put her hand in mine so she can point to the letters while singing the ABCs. A couple of times she has disappeared upstairs and I found her in her room 'reading' her books. :)
