Friday, September 3rd (Addison's 2nd Birthday!)
We got up early and the girls (Grete, Katie and I) went to get pedicures in the morning while Grandma Judy watched Carter and Addison. After our toes were all pretty, we went to the zoo!! Ryan and Great Grandma Jeannie came along too! Friday is free zoo day for the month of September so we really lucked out. The kids had a great time and loved the train but neither were too sure about the caraousel. They also weren't too sure about the aviary and I can't disagree with them. It was the first time I had ever gone in and I didn't realize the birds would just fly right up on you - totally freaked me out! Oh, and a bird took a crap on my shoulder so I wasn't too thrilled about that either :). Grandma Judy, once again, let the kids pick out a toy before we left the zoo. Addison chose an elephant and Carter, even though had his choice of anything the whole gift shop and despite Grete and my attempts to sway him in the direction of the tigers, chose... another giraffe! That man loves his giraffes!
After the zoo it was naptime - for the adults and the kids! After we were all rested everyone gathered at my folks for our annual Fantasy Football Draft!! We shared a lot of laughs and had a great night. Hopefully my team has a good year!
Saturday, September 4th
The girls went to DeWitt to see Joanna try on her wedding dress and get measured for our bridesmaid dresses. Joanna looked beautiful but trying to wrangletwo toddlers in the bridal salon got a little stressful. So stressful that grandma and great grandma had to take the kids to lunch early while we finished up. The boys went to the Iowa game while the girls went to the Filling Station to eat lunch, watch the Hawks and see Uncle Cory! I walked into the Fillng Station and Uncle Cory was holding Carter Man who was acting like he owned the place - it was too funny!
Saturday afternoon was full of more naps and Saturday night we went to the Circus!! Carter and Addison LOVED the circus. It kept their attention for most of the night, which is pretty good since it went about an hour past their bedtimes. Carter was so funny and clapped at almost everything. But I think he favorite were the elephants! He got a really cool light up toy from great grandma and dad just had to get a sno-cone. A.tweleve.dollar.sno-cone! :)
Sunday, September 5th
Sunday was Carter and Addison's big day! Carter got baptized first thing in the morning and he did okay. He isn't used to sittig in front so he was a little distracted and got a little loud (is there anything more stressful than trying to keep your child relatively quiet in church). When it was time for Carter to be baptized, Carter didn't really want to be held so was alternating between trying to get down, clapping, shaking his head no, and hamming it up for the entire church. Now I know why people baptize kids as infants - it would have been so much easier to hold a sleeping baby :). After church, everyone gathered at grandma and grandpa T's for a little low-key reception.
Sunday afternoon was Addison's 2nd Birthday party! She had an Abby Cadabby theme complete with Abby t-shirt, Abby cake and an Abby pinata. Katie also borrowed a bouncy house from Madison school and the kids had fun jumping in that and clmbing in and out of it. Actually, Carter was apprehensive at first but he eventually warmed up to it. Addison got a lot of really fun gifts but the funniest thing was watching her push her doll stroller (from us) while wearing her tutu and Princess Belle heels (from Mark and Grete). She looked so cute and such a little momma. She is turning into such a big girl!
Sunday night we interupted family time for some friend time! We went over to our friend's Jon-Michael and Amanda's house to hang out and have the boys (Carter and Gavin) play. They had a good time and played together a little bit and Carter only attempted to bite him once - that Carter Man is bad news! :) Sharing is a hard lesson to learn!
Monday, September 6th
Monday morning the boys (my dad, Mark and Matt) went golfing while the girls stayed back and chilled. We cookedout steaks for lunch and then had to say good-bye to Mark and Grete :(. Fortunately, we will see them next weekend for the Iowa/Iowa State game! The rest of the afternoon we tried to relax before heading back to the real word on Tuesday.
What a wonderful weekend and hooray for a 4 day work week!
