Luckily it didn't rain too hard just enough to be annoying and for me to leave my camera at home so it wouldn't get wet ~ same goes for my phone. Carter, Isla and I went around our neighborhood while Matt and Hayden gave out candy at the house. We went over to my mom's neighborhood after so we could hit up Matt's parents, the Schoenings, Wes and Ginny, Jack and George's houses. That was plenty for my shark and octopus.
We ate a quick dinner and then my dad, mom, me and the 4 kiddos packed up and headed north! We left about 7:30 to head up to Minneapolis for Tierney's birthday weekend. We didn't get up to Mark and Grete's new house until 12:30 and unfortunately the girls were a little wound up and didn't go back to sleep right away. This meant I had to sleep with Isla on pullout couch mattress and that was.not.fun. My girl has always slept better when she is by herself so it was a long night. But not literally because the kids got up at 6 am :).
Unfortunately, we didn't get to go to the zoo as planned so we spent the morning hanging out at Mark and Grete's new house and making sure the kids didn't destroy the place. Isla and Gus were tired from the trip so were kind of off all day on Friday. By early afternoon, we were all a little tired and crabby and needed to get out and do something! Luckily, there is plenty to do in Minnesota. So after a quick trip to IKEA (well as quick as an IKEA trip can be) we headed to the Mall of America. Believe it or not the plan was not to shop but to go to the aquarium! Carter and Addison loved it and Isla did okay but wanted to be held most of the time. The best part was walking through the tanks. Sharks literally swam overhead and Carter was in heaven! Any trip to the aquarium wouldn't be complete without a stop to the gift shop. Carter found a Tiger shark and was very excited for him to come home with us! He named him Tiger, naturally.
| Not a great photo but wanted to show the shark swimming over us! |
Side note: Carter probably would have been fine skipping the gift shop altogether but now I am getting slightly obsessed with his shark collection and want him to have a complete set :). He only needs the great white now!
Friday night consisted of Applebees to go, swimming and the hotel, waiting for the rest of the crew and an early bedtime for most of the children :).
Saturday was Tierney's birthday party!! We tried not to make too much of a mess that morning while we hung out at Mark and Grete's and watched the Iowa game. Gus and Isla took naps while Tierney tried to rest but was too excited about her day! Grete planned such a cute 'Neverland' birthday party! Everyone was encouraged to wear their favorite character from Peter Pan. Tierney and Isla were Tinker Bell, Addison dressed up as a fairy, Gus was a pirate and Carter was a shark! A shark is close to a crocodile, right?! :)

There were several other kids that came dressed up too. The kids traced their shadows and made feather hats. Tierney didn't have a shortage of helpers to open gifts. There was yummy food and of course cake! Tierney looked so adorable and was such a happy birthday girl!
Sunday was breakfast at Perkins before we made a long trip home. Matt and Ryan left earlier in the morning so Matt could drive by his old houses. Matt's GPS initially took them the long way to his first house ....this becomes important because his GPS also took us the long way home! For whatever reason, it didn't tell us to turn onto 63 so we took 52 south instead. It actually was only about 15 minutes longer and the drive was beautiful with all the fall colors. Long but beautiful!
What a weekend! It was such a fun and busy month but we look forward to slowing things down a little bit before Thanksgiving!!
