Wisconsin Dells 2014!

For Christmas this  year, Matt and I decided to give each other, and our family, a trip to the Dells with the Meyer family. Originally Matt and Ryan tried to coordinate this weekend as a surprise for the wives but someone in my family cannot keep a secret ;). Anyway, we went to the Great Wolf Lodge over the past weekend and had a great time!!

We decided to just stay one night so we headed up Saturday morning first thing, which ended up being a good thing because northern states got ice the night before!! We stopped in Dubuque for a quick breakfast and a quick stop to the Dollar store for us because we forgot milk cups for our kids. Gus started the weekend off right after he choked on his breakfast sandwich....he is known for this and has had to have to Heimlich maneuver more times then we like to count. Scary...yes but so very Gus that we had to make light of it after everything was all good. Oh Gus Man!

We made it up to the hotel around noon and to our surprise our rooms were ready!! We got our swimsuits on and headed straight to the waterpark. Carter and Addison were tall enough to be able to go on almost all the rides with the exception of only one. I thought for sure that Isla would be our little daredevil so I was really surprised how cautious she was. It didn't help that the first time she went up the stairs in the 'baby area' to go down the slide she slipped and fell. She really enjoyed the little kid area with the stationary jet skis she could climb on. She also liked the wave pool and the kid friendly hot tub was also one of her favorite places to be, which was fine by me!

Carter and Addison pretty much loved it all. Most of the bigger slides they had to ride with one of us but they were able to go down one of the bigger slides by themselves and I was so surprised they liked it!! You had to use a mat to go down the side and you went face first!! We talked Addison and Carter into riding it the first time and I honestly thought they would hate it ~ if they didn't back out at the top. But to my surprise they loved it! They were so brave. While we were finishing lunch with the little kids, Carter and Addison wanted to go down the slide and since our table was right across from were this slide ended we let them go up by themselves! Of course, they did great but Katie and I were just in awe on how big our 'babies' looked walking up the stairs, waiting in line and going down the slide without us right there.

Matt and Ryan took one for the team and took Gus and Isla up for naps in the afternoon so Katie and I were able to go down the slides with the big kids. It was so fun hanging out with the two of them and being able to do just about everything at the water park.

*Excuse the fact that I have NO pictures of us at the park. However, I was not comfortable having my camera and/or my phone around all that water not to mention that I preferred just being with them and having fun and not feeling like a had to capture everything on film.

After a great afternoon at the park, it was time for dinner. Ryan read about Buffalo Phil's, which is a restaurant very close to the Great Wolf and you can have your food delivered to you by TRAIN! So Fun! Of course, we had to wait for a table with the train but we didn't feel like we could possible eat there without getting served by the train. Luckily, there was an arcade attached to the restaurant so were able to hang out in there for awhile.

Adults were super excited to see this!
Once we were seated the food came out super fast and everyone loved the train especially Carter ad Gus!

We love trains!
Everything was really good and after dinner we went back the arcade and actually let the kids do a couple of things. There was a really big bounce thing that the kids wanted to try...so Carter, Addison and Gus gave it a go.
So sorry...so blurry!
While Isla was content with this:

When we got back to the hotel, we changed into jammies for story time!

The next morning, we packed up and had another quick breakfast in our rooms and headed back down to the water park. We must have been a little too excited because we were there 15 minutes before the park opened! Boo! For having to wait by the doors but we were the first ones in :). Ryan and I got to ride the Tornado (the only ride the big kids couldn't go on). Matt and Katie rode it the first day so warned us about it but it was still a little scary!! Fun but scary :).

The only other 'exciting' thing to happen on Sunday was that Gus man got lost! Unless the slide had a tube the kids had to go down them alone. Gus had been riding the little slides all morning and Katie and Ryan had been watching him get out and go back up. But he got out the wrong way and didn't know where to go and ended up walking up the stairs to a bigger slide. Ryan met him and a lifeguard carrying him a couple minutes later but it was so scary especially for Katie! After that, we were all ready to go. Katie and Ryan at lunch on the rode because Ryan had to be back for work but we decided to eat at Unos Pizzeria (yum!) before heading home.

It was a GREAT weekend and it was really nice to get away and just be able to relax and have fun!
