Brea Jean ~ 5 Months

Life just keeps moving on and we are closing into a half of a year with our little Brea.

Nickname(s): Brea Tortilla!
Biggest Achievement: Finding her feet!

Biggest Challenge: Sleep!

Firsts: first time eating oatmeal, first birthday party, first Halloween!

Tierney's Birthday Party!

Chubby Lady Bug

Likes: Her siblings, mornings, bath time, the exersaucer, and pulling the pacifier out of her mouth

Dislikes: Mondays, Nora [or Jake] grabbing at her, the afternoons, naps, and pulling the pacifier out of her mouth

Sleep: BAD! We got desperate and decided to start solids early (more on that in the eating section). She seems to be doing slightly better but still getting up twice at night. She HAS to be parented to sleep, which is so very annoying. There are nights that it takes Matt and I an hour to get her down between reinserting paci and rocking her back to sleep. But then the other night I had her swaddled ready for bed and was reading the big kids a book and she fell asleep, by herself, on the floor. Consistently inconsistent that one! For the most part she goes back to sleep after eating in the middle of night but there have been a couple of nights were we had to let her cry it out in the middle of the night. CIO is not my favorite but it the best solution for these times. Matt and I are usually exhausted and frustrated, which Brea can sense. Also, she screams regardless if we hold her/rock her or not so it is the best for all involved to step away. I don't remember the other two kids being this hard at night but that could be momnesia at this point.

Napping is not much better. She pretty much only sleeps 30 - 45 minutes at a time and I long for the days where she would take almost 2 hour naps. But at this point I would take an hour nap!

Daylight Saving Time = 1; Brea = 0

Personality: Brea can be so very happy but she can also be so very angry. She doesn't seem to be a 'traditional' third born where she can just roll with the punches. She likes her routines and is super pissy when overtired, which has been for the past month. Between traveling and daylight saving time, she hasn't had a super great night or day sleep for awhile. When she is happy she is VERY happy. She smiles and giggles and is pretty much the cutest thing around.

Superficial: Adorable :). Still has blue eyes and a little hair. Her hair reminds me so much of Carter because she doesn't have much except for in the low back. Carter was the same way and had a mullet by the time he was 1. She is on the smaller side, according to her percentages, but has the cutest fat rolls. Chubby babies are my favorite! She is wearing 3-6 month clothing and size 1 diapers. However, I have been putting size 2 diapers on her at night. She also has the biggest smile and all is forgiven when she flashes it.

Those rolls!

Smiley

Eating: It is amazing how quickly things change. When Carter and Isla were 4 months old the recommendation is to start rice cereal or oatmeal. Now the recommendation for breastfed babies is to wait until 6 months before starting solids. I don't have an opinion on this either way but Matt and I were at our breaking point with Brea's sleep [or lack thereof]. Something had to change so we decided to start giving her oatmeal in the evenings. She loved it!

All three kids...first experience eating

Other Notables: Loves her dolly! Tierney gave Isla a cute doll for the car seat when they were little. Isla hasn't used it in awhile and I randomly thought about it one day. Luckily, I could find it and Isla was willing to give it to Brea. She loves it and grabs for it all the time when she is in her car seat. She fell asleep holding onto her on our way to ballet last week.

We love you so much Brea Tortilla! You have been such an amazing addition to our family and love watching you grow everyday. Your siblings are obsessed with you and it is so cute to watch you all interact. But if you could sleep better...that would be great :).
