Holiday Happenings!

We have gone to quite a lot of holiday events this December. Since I didn't do a great job chronically everything up to now, I am going to just give a rundown of everything we have done since the beginning of the month:

Winterfest - Children's Museum
Just like over Halloween, the Children's Museum had a holiday event where the kids could do crafts and play in the musuem. Addison was at her cousin's birthday party so Carter flew solo to the event. He made a snowman out of modeling clay, made a paper snowflake, a glitter ornament, performed an experiment with dry ice and saw Santa for the first time of the season!! This time around the crafts were spread out throughout the museum, which was nice because it allowed Carter to go into the museum and play. He was really excited to sit on Santa's lap because Santa was in a sleigh! He even asked if the sleigh would fly but Grandma Judy explained that it only flew on Christmas Eve. Carter asked Santa for a camera and confirmed that he has been a good boy.  :)

Santa at Hy-Vee
The second time Carter went to see Santa was at Ryan's Hy-Vee. We even saw the Santa Mobile! Santa was accompanied by an elf and I thought Carter would be a little scared of him. To be fair, he was kinda creepy looking. Carter loved him and everytime he passes the picture he says, "that's me with Santa and the elf." He asked Santa for a camera.

Christmas Party at the Fountains
We went to the Fountains annual Christmas party. Carter had a good time because his (second?) cousin Michael was there. Michael is in 5th grade and was really good with Carter. Carter held his hand and showed him the train room. :) We had really good food and fun. Carter also saw Santa for the third time. He asked for a camera.

Christmas with the Tiemeiers
This is kind of an 'off' Christmas for us because Mark and Grete came over Thanksgiving and we celebrated in November with them. Katie and Ryan will be heading up North to spend the holidays with Ryan's parents so it will be really quiet for us over Christmas - very un Tiemeier like.We will still attend the Osborn's Christmas Eve party and celebrate Cory's birthday (he shares his bday with the man upstairs :) but that's about it. So we all gathered this past Sundy for Christmas including church in the morning, Granite City for lunch and opening presents! Carter got a camera! Thanks Auntie Jo! He also got a Leap Pad from my parents, which he has been playing with ever since. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I know that it is NEW so he is really interested so I am being slightly more lenient but will definitely be limiting his time with it. I don't want a child that won't talk or answer questions because he head is in a video game :). That being said, he does have 'learning' apps so I like that aspect of it.

Fun with the Grahams
We headed over to Carter's 'best buddy' Gavin's house for Gingerbread house decorating, dinner and gift exchange. Carter napped late due to my parents' Christmas so we had to wake him up early from his nap and he was.not.happy. Inconsolable in fact. He didn't want to go to see Gavin, he didn't want to where his coat, he didn't want to find his shoes. He was such a crab but we made it to Gavin's house and Carter changed his tune. Gavin has a train table in his room and Carter thinks that is the best thing evah! Carter, Gavin and Mia had fun decorating their respective houses but more fun just hanging out and running around.

They all were able to stop and sit when we told him it was time to open presents. Carter got Mia some Barbie clothes and Gavin a Hotwheels ramp. Carter got a dinosaur, TWO Cars puzzles, Hotwheels cars and a Cars art station with crayons, water colors and markers! Gavin even used some of his own money to buy Carter's gifts. Isn't that sweet?! They had a great time playing with their new toys. The evening ended too soon for Carter who didn't want to leave but I promised him he could play with Gavin again soon. We definitely need to get those boys together more often :).

Holiday Party at Work
We had a children's holiday party at my work the week before Christmas. Festivities included pictures with Santa (Carter asked for Hotwheels since he had gotten his camera), picking up some reindeer food, Christmas coloring books (Carter picked Cars) and cookies. And of course hanging out at mommy's work is part of the fun !

Also I wanted to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to our friends Jason and Jessica who welcomed Jaxson Ian on December 14th. He joins two furbabies Rocky and Chica. Jessica had some complications so had to have additional surgeries. It was really scary but she is now on the mend.
