Likes: Her mama, bath time with or without Carter, eating, crawling up the stairs, playing with things she shouldn't (ie dog bowls, remote, etc.), and putting everything in her mouth.
Dislikes: Sleeping in, not being fed fast enough, being told no, mommy fishing things out of her mouth or taking away anything she shouldn't be playing with.
Biggest Achievement of the Month: Isla started giving hugs!! They are 'Gus' hugs where she leans her head on you but it is still the cutest thing ever!!
Biggest Challenge of the Month: Teething that included a very runny nose and lots of drool!
Sleep: Sleep has been pretty typical this past month. Generally going down around 7:30 and getting up anywhere between 6:30 and 7:00 but never close to the 7:00 mark on the weekends :). She did start having some issues falling asleep! Most evenings she will fall asleep nursing and I will put her to bed but a couple nights she hasn't fallen asleep so I had just been putting her down after eating but still awake. Now that we no longer swaddle, Miss Isla isn't as easy to go down while sleepy but still awake. She thinks it is play time and would cry, we would go into her room and she would be standing in the crib waiting for us. Then we would put her paci back in and lay her back down. And she would giggle at us! Like, 'silly mommy and daddy, I not ready for bed yet!' So we brought her back out to the family room where she played for a little bit before starting to really show signs that she is sleepy ~ being crabby and starting to tug on her hair.
Eating: Despite her size, this girl just can't get enough food!! She is getting better at eating what we are eating but still prefers baby food. I think it takes her too long to focus to get smaller pieces of food in her mouth and why would she want to do that when someone can spoon it in for her?! She loves to chew on bread but we have to watch her because before you know it she will shove the entire piece in her mouth!

Personality/Temperment: Isla is still so smiley and happy most of the time. Between 4-5 continues to be her whiney times but for the most part she is such a sweetie. Like her older brother, she has been blessed with a big mouth so everyone notices her big smile and, thanks to her daddy, her big blue eyes!
She always has the biggest smile when I come home from work and crawl to me almost immediately. She is starting to do this laughing thing where she kinda pretend laughs at people. It is hard to explain but isn't her typical giggle but rather she just opens her {big} mouth and says "ha ha" and waits for whoever to do the same thing back to her. So silly!
Although she is sweet, girlfriend can stand up for herself and definitely lets you know when she has an opinion! She doesn't let Gus take her toys anymore and often pulls them right back from him while letting him know that it was 'her' toy! We saw the first signs of a temper on Miss Isla this past month, when she was trying to get a couch out of the Strawberry Shortcake house window. It was too big and wasn't going to fit regardless of how much Isla tried to force it. She started getting really frustrated and squawking while banging the couch against the window. It was really funny and I had to show her how to get the couch out of the house.

Did I mention she can be crabby too?! :)
She is one tough cookie too! Isla is a typical baby crawling around and getting into things, which means she often bumps into things or falls over but very rarely cries! Most times we don't even know when she has bonked her head until we notice a little red mark. Both Addison and Gus love her so much they practically tackle her but she just takes it ~ I guess that is what second-borns learn to do :).

Addison loving on Isla
The Superficial: My little peanut! She has definitely grown taller but is still so narrow and petite. She still fits into size 1 diapers and I was putting some of Addison's old shoes on her the other day and a cute little pair of sandals fit...they said 'Newborn' on them! I am starting to worry about finding shoes that will fit her when she starts walking. Clothing is all over the board. She generally wears 9 month stuff but some 6 month things still fit. I do put her in 12 month things I have bought her but pants are generally way too big!
Her hair is growing longer and is super blonde at the roots. I still style it in a mowhawk mostly because I don't know what else to do :). She has the biggest blue eyes, puffy cheeks, and the most amazing skin! I have noticed that her two little birth marks (a tiny one of her temple and one on her thigh) have lighten considerably. You can barely see the one on her head anymore. Which brings us to a new section for Miss Isla:
Teeth: Top two teeth broke through on March 8th both at the same time! We are getting used to your toothy grin :) Botton left tooth popped through on March 16th. Now the count in 3 1/2...I can see the second bottom tooth starting to appear. Teeth are definitely cute but dang they are sharp! I have been bit several times and it is not so much fun!
Motor Milestones: Isla has really started waving and pointing this month....She did is sporitically at for the past couple months but now will point at you upon entering a room along with her cute jabber. She has started to understand how things go together. The other day she spent several minutes trying to put together two blocks. It was the sweetest thing, she never got frustrated when trying to line them up but was concentrating so hard!
She is so strong!! My mom and I were heading out to Target the other day and Isla had pulled herself up to my mom's wire shoe rack and I tried to pick Isla up to get in the car and the entire shoe rack practically came with us! Also, my mom has a little 2 pound medicine ball at her house and Isla can pick it up! Not way up high or anything but high enough that she can move it from one place to another.
Isla is cruising along furniture now and will still take a few steps with the walker but ended up crawling on her knees pushing the walker - not quite the right idea Isla! :) She is getting sturdier on her feet but nowhere close to standing independently. She does crawl super fast and can be anywhere in now time. She loves crawling up the stairs the best but tries to sit on the stairs, which of course is not a great idea so we have to watch her closely.
Firsts: First Words? "Hai Dad!" We have been saying 'hi' to things and Isla will repeat it with a 'hai' so the other day, I said 'hi dad' to Matt after giving Isla her bath and she said, 'hai da' and it sounded just like 'hi dad!' So cute! You also would say 'no no no' and shake your head when Grandma Judy tried to wipe the snotties off your nose.
Miscellaneous: We traveled to Minnesota to celebrate Tierney's baptism and had a lot of fun there. We went swimming at the hotel and went to the Children's museum where Isla played on a lilly pad and got to bang some wooden blocks together. She also went shopping at the Mall of America! Lucky girl!

Looking Pretty for Tierney's Baptism
Isla got to open a birthday present early. Miss Tierney bought her a doll and Isla loves it. I didn't know that Isla had always stolen Tierney's doll when she came to visit so now Isla has her own.
Isla loves to play with cars and duplo blocks. She also loves to hug Hayden, play on her piano, and play with the stuffed circus animals and princess castle at my mom's house.
Little Sister & Big Brother: Just like Carter, Isla loves to play in Hayden't water bowl and does not listen to the word 'no.' But unlike Carter, the word doesn't faze her. Carter would break into tears if you told him no (man, that crying thing started early with him!) but Isla will stop what she is doing, look at you, smile and get right back to it. Man she is going to be trouble!
Isla is pretty fearless. She tries to slide off the bed or couch head first and flings her body out of your arms if she wants to be held by someone else. Carter was slighlty more reserved and had learned to slide off the couch feet first. Both were bottomless pits, love baths and started showing off their tempers. Carter was starting to stand on his own and even took a couple of steps between two people. Carter could drink from a sippy cup. Isla isn't close to doing those things yet. But all babies are different. This comparison is just for fun and not to prove one was/is better than the other. We love them both for who they are!

On St. Patrick's Day!
You can't help but love Isla! I am starting to plan her first birthday party but it is hard because I am also planning Carter's party! Birthday parties generally stress me out so I am trying not to go overboard with either party...wish me luck!
