Labor Day 2013

Why do three day weekends go by so fast?! Labor Day weekend is generally pretty busy for my family. We have 6 birthdays to celebrate, football starts and general family togetherness ensues. But we wouldn't have it any other way :). This summer's weather has been super crazy. We had a pretty mild June, July and beginning of August...the kids went back to school and all of the sudden the temperatures were in the 90s! My company closes at 3 pm the day before a holiday so I was happy to get a jumpstart on the weekend. The plan was to head out to the pool ASAP! Once Katie was home from school and all the kiddos were up we packed up and headed out. The weather was perfect for an evening swim! And it was even better because we were practically the only ones there. After swimming, we went over to the Meyer's for pizza ~ what a fun night!

Saturday was bootcamp in the morning for Katie and I while mom and Grete stayed home with all the kiddos. We had some lunch and Katie, my dad, Mark and Matt headed to Iowa City for the Hawks' season opener. Grete, Jo, my mom, the kids and I headed out to the pool. And would you believe that a day that reached 90+ degrees we left the pool after only an hour because it was chilly?! I know! It was the craziest thing. We arrived at the pool and it was overcast the entire time and with a little wind it was definitely chilly for the kids. So we headed home for naps instead...of course the second we got home the sun came out and brought the heat with it. We watched the Iowa game from the comfort of my mom's house while everyone else sweated it out in the stands.

Still smiling ~ even after the game!
Sunday morning we tried the pool again and it was much better! The sun was out and everyone had a great time. After the pool and some lunch, it was time for our annual Tiemeier Fantasy Football league draft!! It is always fun having Mark and Grete here for the draft vs. Facetime. And the kids behaved themselves so there weren't too many distractions. As soon as the draft was over it was time for our Birthday Party Extravaganza! It was Grete's actual birthday so some pampering was in order. Grete, Katie and Addison went and got birthday pedicures. It was Addison's first time and she was SO excited and had to show everyone her 'pretty toes' when she got back.

Then it was time for dinner, presents and CAKE!! We sang 'Happy Birthday' 6 times! Addison, Gus, Great Grandma, Grete, Mark and I all got our own song. Gus LOVED it and thought we were singing to him the whole time and even learned to blow out the candles!

Singing to each other
I think it is safe to say that my mom is officially crazy. With everything going on this weekend, she agreed to have a sleep over with the big kids Sunday night! Okay then ~ Matt and I headed home for a quiet night before she could change her mind ;).

Sunday morning was breakfast and pictures with the grandkids. Apparently getting 5 kids 5 and under to look at the camera and smile was quite the challenge...who knew, right?!

Not all smiling but at least all looking :)
We ate breakfast at Village Inn and then headed over to our house for a tour for Mark and Grete and some play time for the kiddos. Before we knew it, it was time for the Minnesota Tiemeiers to go :(. Which is always the worst part of the weekend.

We celebrated the last 'official' day at the pool in the afternoon (luckly for us it is open for a couple more weeks) and then dinner with everyone at our house. And just like that it was over. The really neat thing abou the weekend was that we were able to finally see all 5 grandchildren interact together. They have all been together before of course but  now they are all around the age that they can 'play' together. They did great! Isla wasn't sure what to think of Tierney at first. She is used to being the littlest one so she was definitely checking her out. Carter liked her and talked to her a couple of times but was more excited that Uncle Mark was home :). Addison LOVES Tierney so she played with her and talked to her a lot. Gus wasn't too sure what to think of Tierney either. He pushed her a couple of times but it really wasn't in a mean way it was almost like he was just checking she would fall over...she did :).  Don't worry, Tierney made her opinions known when she needed to!

The cutest thing happened between Isla and T. Tierney was sitting by herself on a Disney couch and Isla decided to sit down and join her. Tierney was fine with that for the most part but kept pulling on Isla's outfit. Well, Mark told Tierney 'no' and boy she didn't like that! Grete capture the funny moment:

I know my mom loved having all of her kids and grandkids together so we are looking forward to heading up to Minneapolis for Miss T's first birthday in a couple months!
