Thanksgiving 2013!

We have so much to be thankful for! Thanksgiving weekend was amazing! But honestly, any 5 day weekend with family is a good time.

Wednesday
Matt and I both took Wednesday off and it was fun to all hang out together. I went to Heather's class in the morning and we just relaxed the rest of the day. We had dinner at Katie and Ryan's house and then went swimming with the Bessines at their hotel. The kids loved it especially the hot tub.

Thursday
Turkey Day! Mark, Grete and Tierney were in town! The morning was fairly low-key...the kids played while we watched football. And ate. We had Thanksgiving dinner around 2 and it was so good. My mom kept up with her tradition and remembered hours later than she forgot the cranberry sauce ;). Katie made a really good sweet potato caserole, Matt made watergate salad and tended to the gravy. My Aunt gave him a big compliment on his gravy stating that she hadn't had good gravy since grandpa died. We went around and said what we were thankful for...family was most common but others were also thankful for Mr. Pig, Hop Hop and Disney princesses :).

Story time
Some Thanksgiving Day reading
After dinner, was more relaxing, game-playing and then birthday cake! My Aunt's birthday was on Thanksgiving and the kids were thrilled to be able to sing Happy Birthday and eat cake.

Friday
I didn't partake in any Black Friday shopping and that was fine by me! Instead, I tried to work off some of the cookies and puppy chow I consumed the day before by going to workout class with my mom and Grete.

After the gym, it was party prep time! We decided to have everyone over to our house for the Iowa v. Nebraska game...and wouldn't you know the Hawks won!! We had hot turkey sandwiches, meatballs, shrimp, cheese and crackers and fruit. Everyone was sufficiently fed and the kids had a great time playing in the newly constructed play room in the basement.  My mom also took the kids outside to see the horses. They were hanging out in the polo field and were super close to the fence. Unfortunately, we didn't have any carrots to fed them.

The afternoon held naps and party clean up before dinner at the Club.

Saturday
The YMCA bought out Gold's Gym so there are new classes for us to try! The bad news is that the bootcamp class is 8 am! On a Saturday! We survived :).

Cute girls on a walk

After naps, we went to the Festival of Trees. Poor Tierney refused her afternoon nap so she fell asleep on the way downtown and missed the festivities. Carter and Isla had a great time at the North Pole and Carter made a keychain! Mr. Mathboy was to count out 12 beads for his keychain. I asked Matt how many he had left and before Matt could answer, Carter chimed in '3 more' and he was right he had already counted 9 out. Both kids also loved the trains and were a little weirded out by the talking tree.
Fascinated by the trains

Sunday
We had family pictures in the morning. My mom bought the girls matching Christmas dresses and since Tierney won't be here for Christmas she wanted a picture of them. Poor Isla was recovering from her cough and vomited right before we were leaving for my parent's house so she wasn't super photogenic.

Then we opened Christmas presents with the Minnesota Tiemeiers. Carter got a tonka truck that he has been eyeing since Mark and Grete bought Gus one last year. He opened it and said, 'this.is.awesome.' Isla got a wagon for her toys.

After we had to say our goodbyes to the Tiemeier fam, we decided to lift our spirits by taking the big kids to see Frozen. Such a good movie! I loved it and plan to see it again :).

So that was our Thanksgiving! Full of activities and went by too fast as always.

Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. ~W.J. Cameron
